Remote Learning

The DfE guidance states that:

"Remote education should not be viewed as an equal alternative to attendance in school. We expect schools to consider it only as a last resort when the alternative would be no education, and only after it has been established that the pupil is, or will be, absent from school. In such cases, remote education can have the benefit of allowing absent pupils to keep on track with their education and stay connected to their teachers and peers."

At the James Marks Academy

In line with this guidance, we consider remote learning on a case-by-case basis where there is clear and robust evidence that the pupil is unable to attend the site.

Remote learning is a short-term provision implemented as part of a pupil's reintegration into school.

In the event that the school has agreed to remote learning, the parents, carers and pupils will be given the appropriate information on how to access this.

Key points for remote learning

All pupils have a Google account, which is linked to the school, and it is through the calendar feature of this that they can use Google Meets, to remotely join lessons.

We recognise that some pupils may not have suitable online access or technology at home. If this is the case, please contact the school office, and we will endeavour to provide the necessary support or equipment.

Pupils are expected to have their cameras and microphones on, unless previously agreed.

  • We expect pupils to put learning first, by fully engaging with the work.

  • Pupils and staff only use their school login to communicate with each other.

  • No personal information is to be shared.

  • Pupils and staff will continue to maintain high levels of professionalism, and treat any online lesson in the same way as they would treat a normal classroom lesson. This includes using appropriate language.

  • Pupils cannot take screenshots or video recordings of their online lessons.
